Considering a Gun Trust? You need to be aware of the new regulations effective July 2016.
On January 4, 2016 the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) issued a ruling expanding the requirements for background checks and fingerprinting for those persons who are responsible for gun trusts (those who can possess firearms under the Trust’s terms, not including the Trust beneficiaries).
The ATF’s ruling will affect the application process by requiring responsible persons to:
1. Complete a specific form;
2. Submit a set of fingerprints
3. Submit all relevant personal information, including photographs
4. Forward copies of applications/ forms to the locality’s chief law enforcement officer (CLEO)
If you’re considering applying for firearms regulated by the ATF, please contact Sumner & Associates and set up your Gun Trust before the new regulations take effect!
